About The Faculty

The college opened its doors on the first of September 1967 to receive the first batch of its 56 students. This number doubles annually.
Since its establishment, the college has taken the curriculum of the academic year, where the student studies the subjects prescribed for him distributed over four academic years, the student is granted, after successfully passing these subjects, a university degree in law and Sharia.

The college continued to apply this curriculum until the beginning of the academic year 1976, where the system of courses was circulated to all faculties of the university, and then the College Council approved the study of 159 units of study in a period of at least seven semesters and a maximum of fourteen semesters that qualify the student to obtain a "university degree in law and Sharia."

On 13/10/1981, an Amiri decree was issued to establish the "College of Sharia and Islamic Studies", and the establishment of this college led to changing the name of the "College of Law and Islamic Sharia" to become "College of Law" only and grants a university degree in law to its graduates, and on 1/7/1989 the Council of Kuwait University approved the return of the Faculty of Law to the system of years.

Historically, the first batch of college students graduated in the academic year 1971/70 and the number of graduates at that time was 22 students.

According to the approval of the Council of Kuwait University in its decision No. (4/93) dated 29/6/1993 to start the graduate program to grant a master's degree in law as of the beginning of the academic year 93/1994.

- The Faculty of Law offers 3 master's degree programs: Master of Public Law, Master of Private Law and Master of Criminal Law

The years system integrates practical and theoretical study, as there is a practical training course for fourth-year students in which the student joins one of the bodies, institutions or ministries for a full year at a rate of one day a week, in which the student is informed of the progress of work and his areas of specialization to gain knowledge and experience to benefit after graduation.

The Faculty of Law applies the annual system and conducts final exams secretly according to the control system.

The Faculty of Law at Kuwait University has met the criteria and requirements for membership in the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), which is the institutional assessment required by academic accreditation processes.

The College seeks to achieve the following tasks:

  • Academic leave rights for graduates.
  • Legal science, and contemporary comparison.
  • Program design and scientific curricula to prepare legal student according to the needs of the profession.
  • Expansion using education and media theory and practice in the education of students.
  • Support other faculties in the University to provide specialized courses, as well as the decisions of the general culture.
  • Maintain a low percentage of students compared to the preparation of the Faculty SSRI .
  • Expansion of elective courses to broaden students.
  • Focus on practical programs in rehabilitation students.
  • Attention to faculty members and supported by the incentive to creativity and development in a learning environment to ensure creative thinking.
  • Promote scientific research university/or compilation, published in specialized legal journals.
  • Attention to scientific conferences, symposiums and seminars.
  • Interesting exchange of professors between college and university colleagues Arabic and non-Arabic.
  • Provide an information base for legal principles, and the creation and preparation of Arabic texts for provisions.
  • Work on upgrading the legal level State employees through the training courses of the College.
  • Studies and legal consulting for various destinations in or outside the State.
  • Contribute to the development of legislation through the involvement of faculty members in specialized committees.
  • A closer relationship with the relevant judicial authority's justice facility.
