The Desire of Deanship of the Faculty of Law to activate the information systems in the premises of college . It decided to work on establishing an information systems unit that will be subordinate to the Dean's office, to serve both the poles of the educational process, the student and the university professor. This unit actually established at the beginning of the academic year 2003/2004, and the decision was issued for establishing on November 16, 2004. This unit consists of a faculty member as head of unit , a number of computer software specialists, and a supporting administrative authority . This, The unit benefited from the computer labs which were its nucleus of it , which set about to provide services to the students in the academic year 2004/2003 after being opened by the presiedent of Kuwait University Dr. Nader Al-Jalal and based on it . the information system was developed from it . In the short period in which this unit launch its work, it developed various aspects of informatics in the college, through the self-help of the team working in the unit, so that the Faculty of Law was at the forefront of literary colleges that took The Self-Development informatic Initiative at Kuwait University. The Information Systems Unit has initiated its priorities, which are as follows:
1. preparing and managing computer labs in the Faculty of Law (Equipping and Managing IT Labs)
The Information Systems Unit team of the Faculty of Law set about the preparation of computer labs at the beginning of the academic year 2003/2004. the work started while the college was in its temporary location in Hawalli and is still continuing at the new faculty building in the Shuwaikh university . The laboratory includes the following:
a. Personal computers
B. data shows
C. Printing devices
D. Internet access
These labs were developed after the transition to the new building of the college in the Shuwaikh area , which was expanded to three laboratories, in addition to a assistant laboratory that was approved for converted to a laboratory for students with special needs. The new building of the Information Unit (Building 6 Shuwaikh) has recently been allocated. The building includes 4 new laboratories, two of which are 48 students , for the purpose of teaching a law search course for second year students , While the other 12 are used to be used as assistant laboratories for students. The building also includes the offices of employees and computer technicians of the unit.
2. Organizing integrated computer courses for both students and faculty members (Organizing IT Courses for Students and Faculty)
The Information Unit holds computer courses in the computer lab in the college, periodically for each of the faculty members and students of the college. The Unit also organizes short sessions (Tutorial Sessions) training course on the basis of requests from faculty members, as quick teaching sessions for their students.
3. Participating in teaching and developing the course of legal research methods (Participating in Teaching Research Methods Courses and Developing their Syllabus )
In the light of the Faculty's interest in scientific research, the Unit's team participates in the teaching and developing the special aspect of electronic search methods from the courses of the law Research in a continuous way , especially for the proportions for courses offered for the students of the first and second year , so that now it is equivalent to 40% from total of Scientific course to the second year students.
4. Providing technical support services
The team work at the Unit's facilities on a continious way to provide technical support to all students, administrators and faculty members regarding to all computer problems from to devices (hardware) and applications ( software) .
5. Providing e-mail to faculty members (E-Mail)
The unit provided all faculty members with e-mail addresses specially for each of them, on the website of the college, for use in their official correspondence inside and outside the college.
6. Providing technical support services for conferences and other activities of the College
The staff of the unit provides technical support services for all the activities and occasions organized by the Faculty of Law, such as conferences, periodic and annual, carrying out the tasks of installation and delivery of devices, in addition to the design of the sites for the activities mentioned.
7. participation to electronic legal databases (Subscribing to On-Line Legal Data Bases)
The information unit provides electronic subscription databases. It is a service available to all related to the faculty , as students and faculty members, enabling them to search electronically for information on various subjects of law.
